The Consumer is King

Thank you to everyone who participated in the questionaire at our annual Water Industry Asset & Quality Conference Our questionnaire was centered around the service of which Stonbury provides to Water Companies and their supply chains, covering issues from programming to safety and commercial matters to competence. Although there were not too many surprises in the top ten, I was struck by the issue sitting at number one – 'complaints from the public', which is not often considered a primary focus from a contractor’s point of view. Perhaps it was the introduction of Ofwat’s Service Incentive Mechanism that has shifted the focus? Or perhaps this has always been the top issue? Either way, this factor will certainly be added to our continual improvement programme. Stonbury will be developing a whole raft of client facing key performance indicators based on these results in order to allow us to monitor and improve our own performance, with complaints from the public forming a significant part of these. Interestingly our Community Portal system (intouch) allows project teams to be proactive and drive up customer satisfaction, connecting directly with the public while creating a positive experience to reduce complaints. We would be happy to discuss implementing this for any upcoming projects, please visit our Its Stonbury webpage for more information.  Ian Mellor, Operations Director

Emergency Reactive Work to Various Reservoirs

Stonbury love a challenge and at various times we have been asked by our clients to complete a substantial amount of work at short notice, often working 7 days a week including bank holiday periods, on the rare occasions there is an unexpected issue with a reservoir or water tower. The goodwill of all our clients allows us to temporarily suspend works on their sites to relocate to other areas of the country, in order that we can divert resources to assist clients in need. This is always on the understanding that at some time in the future, a reciprocal favour may be required. It always amazes me how the whole Company takes on one of our Ten Commandments ‘Always over provide on levels of service to our clients’ and we all pull together for the common cause at times like this. This means our site staff and operatives demonstrate the value of another commandment ‘Always have a positive can-do attitude’ by showing great pride and dedication in assisting our clients to get their assets back into service into the minimum timescale possible. Emergencies, whilst undesirable, always reminds me that we are a Company where everyone truly cares about our clients. Jon Featherstone, Delivery Director.

Stonbury awarded 5-year Framework with South Staffordshire Water

Stonbury are pleased to announce the award of a 5 year Framework with South Staffordshire Water (including Cambridge Water) for Reservoir Refurbishment, covering the period - November 2016 to November 2021. We have worked closely with South Staffordshire Water for many years and, since 2011, as the incumbent Framework Contractor. We look forward to building on our strong collaborative relationship to deliver a successful program of works over the next 5 years.

New H&S strategy for 2017

Further to Board approval, Stonbury are embarking on an enhanced strategy for the delivery of Health Safety and Welfare across the country. A six figure sum has been set aside for 2017 and future years to allow the QSE team to add another three members of staff, with a fourth addition mid 2017 with the sole aim of delivering an industry leading performance on site. ‘Making Safety our Priority’ combines detailed analytics, additional site safety inspections, coaching/mentoring, training and employee recognition schemes into what we believe will be a game changing strategy. We believe this to be a major investment in our future, delivering benefits not only to our staff, but to all our stakeholders.

Stonbury sponsors the Great North Snow Dogs

Stonbury proudly supplied four concrete plinths for the snow poochies to perch on for the Great North Snow Dogs project. Creative producers, Wild in Art, worked in partnership with St Oswald's Children’s Hospice and the Great North Snow Dogs to bring together businesses, artists, schools and community groups to create a public art trail of Snow Dog and Snow Puppy sculptures, based on the story The Snowman and The Snow Dog, by Raymond Briggs. For a total of ten weeks, the sculptures were placed in various locations across the North East in streets, parks and open spaces, taking followers on an adventure in the hunt for tracking down the Snow Dogs. Each Snow Dog sculpture has been individually designed and painted by a mix of well-known and yet to be discovered artists. A separate trail of smaller Snow Puppies, created by local school children and community groups were also be exhibited, celebrating the talent of the young people of the North East. The sculptures will be auctioned in December 2016 to find their forever homes, raising funds for St Oswald’s Children’s Hospice.  For more information on Great North Snow Dogs visit
