IMPROVING WELLBEING THROUGH PARTNERSHIP WITH LIGHTHOUSE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY CHARITY (LCIC)

Stonbury continuously strives to enhance and develop new ways of offering industry-leading wellbeing support to our employees, both proactively and reactively.

This year, we have doubled our financial pledge to the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity following a successful and productive year since our first engagement.

The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity (LCIC) is the only charity that provides emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing support to the construction community and their families in the UK and Ireland. The LCIC offers a free and confidential 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline, live chat service, text support function, and a vast range of information, guidance, and support. Additionally, these services are complemented by a free Self Support App offering an alternative method of communication, as well as Lighthouse Beacons, which provide a safe space for people to share concerns.

Our long-standing Wellbeing Committee is jointly owned by various volunteer employees within the business, spread across numerous departments and locations. Meeting routinely, they utilise LCIC content as the backbone of awareness campaigns, continuously raising the profile, signposting those in need, and organising events.

Over the last 12 months, Stonbury’s Wellbeing Committee has successfully introduced the following initiatives:

  • The Self Support App has been installed on every company phone within the business.
  • We have streamlined the support and guidance networks through new posters, key contacts, email footers, and Workplace posts.
  • They have defined and introduced a competent resource pool of Mental Health First Aiders.
  • Organised LCIC attendance and speeches during our internal standdown days, client forums, and construction site visits.
  • Regular attendance at the LCIC Wellbeing Academy, which offers free soft skills and leadership training.
  • Continued mapping key focus areas and awareness days throughout the year.
  • We introduced an anonymous “How are you?” template on our digital Safety Culture platform.

Leadership and management skills are delivered as a critical module within our cultural and behavioural-based programme, OPEN.

In addition to monitoring the effectiveness of the above, the Wellbeing Committee maintains a high level of focus. It ensures the best level of preventative and proactive support is offered to every employee within Stonbury.
