We completed a major refurbishment project at a strategically important water treatment works, extending the lifespan – by over 10 years – of a critical asset whilst mitigating the need for a costly and carbon intensive new build alternative.
Storm tank installation
A 55 cubic metre sectional-steel storm tank with sustainable features was installed at a wastewater treatment site to comply with regulations to cut sewage overflows. The works significantly reduced running costs for our client and allowed them to meet specified carbon reduction targets while increasing stormwater capacity to help protect local waterways for decades to come.
Large-scale weir removal
We successfully opened 340 miles of catchment in the largest project of its kind – in the country – by removing a 70 meter wide, 900 year old medieval weir. Removing the weir significantly improved fish migration, spawning grounds and habitat. Fallen water levels have also allowed natural ecological processes to recommence.
Headwall replacement
Stonbury has been contracted by the Environment Agency to replace the headwalls on a storm water drainage pipe in an embankment that had become destabilised by natural erosion.
Hartshill digester refurbishment
Stonbury were recently commissioned to carry out refurbishment works to the gas zone of a Digester.
Habitat protection during reservoir repair
Stonbury was contracted to complete a repair to a crack in a reservoir roof located within a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) containing the protected plant species Hairy Mallow.
Sluice gate release
Early contractor involvement resulted in a timely and cost-effective solution for a seized sluice gate that was causing uncontrolled flows.
GAC tank refurbishment
Stonbury was pleased to refurbish two granular activated carbon (GAC) tanks on a water treatment site in the north of England.
Spillway & head wall maintenance & repair
As part of a large multi impounding reservoir spillways programme, Stonbury was contracted to complete works to a historic spillway and head wall as part of both safety and maintenance requirements.
GAC backwash tank refurbishment
Stonbury refurbished a GAC backwash tank at a Water Treatments Works following an inspection and clean that we recently carried out for the client.
Spillways programmes
Stonbury is currently engaged in a two large spillway inspection and refurbishment programmes in the north of England.
SR refurbishment
Stonbury have recently completed extensive waterproofing to the roof of a treated water reservoir, near Rugeley in South Staffordshire.
Flume weir repair & refurbishment
Stonbury was contracted to carry out repair works to a flume weir which had failed due to a leak around the wing wall. The leak had eroded the bank to such an extent that a large void had formed.
Staircase schemes
To address the issue of safe access across several sites for a framework client, we recently completed a scheme to install new access staircases and handrails to tanks, where any existing staircases were not meeting client standards, or none were present.
Steel bridge fabrication & installation
Stonbury was commissioned by the Environment Agency to design, fabricate and install a new steel footbridge over the river at Iwood Gauging Station.
