Large-scale reservoir refurbishment

We completed a major refurbishment project at a strategically important water treatment works, extending the lifespan – by over 10 years – of a critical asset whilst mitigating the need for a costly and carbon intensive new build alternative.

Storm tank installation

A 55 cubic metre sectional-steel storm tank with sustainable features was installed at a wastewater treatment site to comply with regulations to cut sewage overflows. The works significantly reduced running costs for our client and allowed them to meet specified carbon reduction targets while increasing stormwater capacity to help protect local waterways for decades to come.

Large-scale weir removal

On behalf of the EA we successfully opened 340 miles of catchment in the largest project of its kind – in the country – by removing a 70 meter wide, 900 year old medieval weir. Removing the weir significantly improved fish migration, spawning grounds and habitat. Fallen water levels have also allowed natural ecological processes to recommence.

Service reservoir demolition & new build

Due to a substantial Increase In demand, we were commissioned to construct a new 8-megalitre water tank to serve a new housing development. The programme further included the demolition of a condemned and redundant reservoir.

A new fish counter & eel pass

A complex project in the South West of England, commissioned by the Environment Agency. The project involved the fabrication and installation of an access gantry, fish counter and eel pass, ensuring that fish and eels - an endangered species - are able to pass safely, promoting biodiversity and ensuring the species continues to spawn and thrive.

Storm tank installation

Flood alleviation scheme

A village in East Devon was subject to regular flood events due to the low capacity of the surrounding drainage ditches.

Gauging station equipment installation

Stonbury was instructed to design, manufacture and install a bespoke two-headed, pole-mounted radar bracket to measure water height levels at a gauging station in the midlands.

New build tertiary treatment plant

The Stonbury civil engineering branch completed works as part of the final stages of a large turnkey construction project for a framework client.

WWTW capital growth & maintenance

Working on behalf of an alliance partner, Stonbury carried out critical growth and maintenance works at a Wastewater Treatment Works in Scotland as a part of a capital maintenance programme.

WWTW roof replacement

Due to water ingress into a high priority equipment building located on a waste water site, Stonbury were asked to complete a full inspection of the roof structure prior to recoating and waterproofing.

Magnetic vents for access covers

As part of an extensive refurbishment programme, Stonbury have been replacing the push-fit vents used inside security access covers on reservoir roofs.

Media bays

Works were recently completed at two separate Water Treatment Works to increase the aggregate storage capacities.

New build reservoir

As the Reservoir Refurbishment Framework Contractor for South Staffordshire Water, Stonbury had the opportunity to tender for the design and build of a 10Mg potable water storage point at SSW’s Outwoods site, on the outskirts of Burton on Trent.

New build reservoir partition wall

Stonbury were contracted to build a full-height division wall to create two separate compartments inside a potable water reservoir. This was due to the high demand for supply, which meant the tank could not be taken out of service for inspections and maintenance works.

New build transformer concrete bunded base

Due to a flood event inside a high voltage building, which was situated on a Water Treatment Works, Stonbury were asked to relocate the existing transformer onto a new concrete bunded base and waterproof the building to prevent future ingress.

Reservoir dividing wall construction

Stonbury were commissioned to undertake internal and external refurbishment works to a service reservoir for one of our framework clients.

Larinier type fish pass installation

Stonbury were commissioned to install a fish pass at Crumpwood Weir, near Uttoxeter, which was identified as a significant barrier to fish migration.

Sample tap chamber construction

Stonbury’s new civil engineering division have recently been awarded a minor civils package by one of their existing reservoir refurbishment framework clients.
