Large-scale reservoir refurbishment

We completed a major refurbishment project at a strategically important water treatment works, extending the lifespan – by over 10 years – of a critical asset whilst mitigating the need for a costly and carbon intensive new build alternative.

Storm tank installation

A 55 cubic metre sectional-steel storm tank with sustainable features was installed at a wastewater treatment site to comply with regulations to cut sewage overflows. The works significantly reduced running costs for our client and allowed them to meet specified carbon reduction targets while increasing stormwater capacity to help protect local waterways for decades to come.

Large-scale weir removal

On behalf of the EA we successfully opened 340 miles of catchment in the largest project of its kind – in the country – by removing a 70 meter wide, 900 year old medieval weir. Removing the weir significantly improved fish migration, spawning grounds and habitat. Fallen water levels have also allowed natural ecological processes to recommence.

Marine outfall repairs

Stonbury was contracted to design and deliver repairs to four outfalls which form part of a wastewater treatment works in the northeast of Scotland.

Constructed wetland refurbishment

We refurbished a large constructed wetland at a water recycling centre to restore effluent processing efficiency within the reed beds

Refurbishment of treatment tanks

We advised our client to avoid an unnecessary, carbon heavy rebuild, by carrying out refurbishment works and live repairs to 6 treatment tanks within a wastewater treatment facility which remained operational throughout.

Storm tank installation

Bio-filter live repairs

Stonbury completed masonry repairs to three bio-filter beds in the South of England. The works took place in sequence to allow the bio-filters to remain in service for the twenty-week construction program duration.

New build tertiary treatment plant

The Stonbury civil engineering branch completed works as part of the final stages of a large turnkey construction project for a framework client.

Sludge tank refurbishment

As part of a significant multi-site wastewater treatment works framework, Stonbury was pleased to deliver the refurbishment of a brick sludge tank, returning the vital asset back to service.

Storm tank upgrade solution

Stonbury has been working with water companies across the UK to deliver solutions that ensure its clients comply with new Environment Agency (EA) storm tank regulations.

Wastewater outfall repairs

Stonbury was contracted to carry out concrete repairs to several joints along a wastewater outfall located on the North Sea. In addition, the scope included the installation of new foundation pads and a riprap wave protection barrier.

WWTW capital growth & maintenance

Working on behalf of an alliance partner, Stonbury carried out critical growth and maintenance works at a Wastewater Treatment Works in Scotland as a part of a capital maintenance programme.

WWTW roof replacement

Due to water ingress into a high priority equipment building located on a waste water site, Stonbury were asked to complete a full inspection of the roof structure prior to recoating and waterproofing.

New build inlet structure

As part of significant capital maintenance to a wastewater treatment works (WWTW) in Southern Scotland, Stonbury were contracted to construct a new sewage inlet structure during SR15, complete with inlet & outlet DI pipework and an RC magflow chamber.

Primary settlement tank repairs

Stonbury’s concrete repair work has prolonged the life of a primary settlement tank on a sewage treatment works in the Midlands.

Reedbed refurbishment works

Following a condition appraisal, Stonbury were contracted to complete refurbishment works to an existing reed bed, constructed to treat the leachate from a capped putrescible tip.

Lagoon repair and refurbishment

To extend the life of two final settlement lagoons, Stonbury was required to carry out refurbishment works, which included repairs to the outfall structure, the installation of an EPDM liners and replacement pipework.

Lagoon refurbishment

A final settlement lagoon required repair and refurbishment work due to wildlife damage and bank slippage, which had caused the lagoon to leak. A ‘Land Drainage’ consent from the local council was required before the works to the channel could go ahead.
