Large-scale reservoir refurbishment

We completed a major refurbishment project at a strategically important water treatment works, extending the lifespan – by over 10 years – of a critical asset whilst mitigating the need for a costly and carbon intensive new build alternative.

Storm tank installation

A 55 cubic metre sectional-steel storm tank with sustainable features was installed at a wastewater treatment site to comply with regulations to cut sewage overflows. The works significantly reduced running costs for our client and allowed them to meet specified carbon reduction targets while increasing stormwater capacity to help protect local waterways for decades to come.

Large-scale weir removal

On behalf of the EA we successfully opened 340 miles of catchment in the largest project of its kind – in the country – by removing a 70 meter wide, 900 year old medieval weir. Removing the weir significantly improved fish migration, spawning grounds and habitat. Fallen water levels have also allowed natural ecological processes to recommence.

Slow sand filter refurbishment

Stonbury has recently completed the installation of a new floor and sandbar set during an ongoing project to increase the lifespan of a slow sand filter.

Fish rescue and relocation

Stonbury is pleased to have completed a fish rescue and relocation on behalf of the Environment Agency to protect fish from harm prior to scheduled de-silting works.

New build tertiary treatment plant

The Stonbury civil engineering branch completed works as part of the final stages of a large turnkey construction project for a framework client.

Sludge tank refurbishment

As part of a significant multi-site wastewater treatment works framework, Stonbury was pleased to deliver the refurbishment of a brick sludge tank, returning the vital asset back to service.

Magnetic vents for access covers

As part of an extensive refurbishment programme, Stonbury have been replacing the push-fit vents used inside security access covers on reservoir roofs.

New build reservoir

As the Reservoir Refurbishment Framework Contractor for South Staffordshire Water, Stonbury had the opportunity to tender for the design and build of a 10Mg potable water storage point at SSW’s Outwoods site, on the outskirts of Burton on Trent.

Reedbed refurbishment

Stonbury has completed works on a seventh bed as part of an ongoing framework to refurbish sixteen reedbeds on a raw water purification site in Southeast England.

Reedbed refurbishments

Stonbury were engaged to carry out refurbishment works to a reedbed system at a Water Recycling Centre (WRC) in the South of England.

Larinier type fish pass installation

Stonbury were commissioned to install a fish pass at Crumpwood Weir, near Uttoxeter, which was identified as a significant barrier to fish migration.

River embankment maintenance

After a successful past three years, Stonbury was again selected by the Environment Agency to complete essential maintenance works to 35 kilometres of flood embankments along the River Severn.

Slow sand filters

Stonbury were asked for their involvement with an Investigation and Design (I&D) project, aimed at understanding the poor performing slow sand filters at a Water Treatment works in the Essex supply area.

Historic reservoir refurbishment

Stonbury returned to a historic site to complete a large-scale refurbishment on a grade II listed stone reservoir. A roof was placed over the original build in the mid-twentieth century, and Stonbury were contracted nine years ago to install a Reg 31 Hylam liner due to ingress.

Spillway & head wall maintenance & repair

As part of a large multi impounding reservoir spillways programme, Stonbury was contracted to complete works to a historic spillway and head wall as part of both safety and maintenance requirements.

Steel water tower demolition

Stonbury were contracted to optioneer and price for the demolition of an abandoned water tower in the north of England.
