We completed a major refurbishment project at a strategically important water treatment works, extending the lifespan – by over 10 years – of a critical asset whilst mitigating the need for a costly and carbon intensive new build alternative.
Storm tank installation
A 55 cubic metre sectional-steel storm tank with sustainable features was installed at a wastewater treatment site to comply with regulations to cut sewage overflows. The works significantly reduced running costs for our client and allowed them to meet specified carbon reduction targets while increasing stormwater capacity to help protect local waterways for decades to come.
Large-scale weir removal
On behalf of the EA we successfully opened 340 miles of catchment in the largest project of its kind – in the country – by removing a 70 meter wide, 900 year old medieval weir. Removing the weir significantly improved fish migration, spawning grounds and habitat. Fallen water levels have also allowed natural ecological processes to recommence.
Weed screen replacement
Following a successful tender, Stonbury was engaged by a client to design a trash screen that incorporated a manually operated vertical penstock screen.
Weir & dam refurbishment
We were contracted after lengthy client/designer/contractor investigation works to complete the full refurbishment of 10 No. weir and dam structures near Burton upon Trent.
Wilford Bridge refurbishment
Stonbury are carrying out a major refurbishment of Wilford Suspension bridge that spans the River Trent in Nottingham.
Chalk stream restoration
A local Rivers Trust contracted Stonbury to restore a section of an SSSI-designated chalk stream in Hampshire to a more natural, ecologically resilient state.
Boardwalk refurbishment
Stonbury was contracted by the Environment Agency to refurbish the boardwalk alongside a river which flows through a public park in the midlands during a four-week programme.
Bank stabilisation
Stonbury was recently contracted to complete bank stabilisation works to a section of riverbank in the South of England. The scope of works also included the removal and disposal of Himalayan balsam and other native vegetation.
Bank restoration
Stonbury were contracted to carry out comprehensive restoration works to a failing river bank that had become very unstable due to a water main leak.
Bank reinstatement and erosion protection
Stonbury delivered a long-lasting hybrid green engineering solution to re-shape and stabilise a section of riverbank after the existing sandstone retaining wall had eroded.
Bank re-profiling
Stonbury carried out the re-profiling and strengthening of 30 linear meters of bank, which had become unstable due to tidal water.
Aerial tree works
Stonbury was contracted to reduce forty-nine Lombardy poplars located outside an operating office which were posing a public safety hazard.
Access platform
Stonbury was asked to fabricate and install a bespoke access gantry, fencing, ladder and gate at an outfall in Bristol due to unsafe access for maintenance teams.
