We completed a major refurbishment project at a strategically important water treatment works, extending the lifespan – by over 10 years – of a critical asset whilst mitigating the need for a costly and carbon intensive new build alternative.
Storm tank installation
A 55 cubic metre sectional-steel storm tank with sustainable features was installed at a wastewater treatment site to comply with regulations to cut sewage overflows. The works significantly reduced running costs for our client and allowed them to meet specified carbon reduction targets while increasing stormwater capacity to help protect local waterways for decades to come.
Large-scale weir removal
On behalf of the EA we successfully opened 340 miles of catchment in the largest project of its kind – in the country – by removing a 70 meter wide, 900 year old medieval weir. Removing the weir significantly improved fish migration, spawning grounds and habitat. Fallen water levels have also allowed natural ecological processes to recommence.
Critical asset repairs
Earlier in the year, we began carrying out repairs to a failing reservoir which showed signs of severe water ingress. The original scope included 180 linear meters of crack repairs. However, following an inspection, this increased to more than 300.
River embankment maintenance
After a successful past three years, Stonbury was again selected by the Environment Agency to complete essential maintenance works to 35 kilometres of flood embankments along the River Severn.
Riverbank erosion works
Stonbury was enlisted to install emergency erosion control measures to a riverbank in Northwest England after a section had collapsed.
Live repairs to bio-filter beds
We delivered phased brickwork repairs to three bio-filter beds while keeping treatment processes online.
Surge vessel revitalisation
Stonbury was recently tasked with revitalising a surge vessel to extend its operational life and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
Gauging station equipment installation
Stonbury was instructed to design, manufacture and install a bespoke two-headed, pole-mounted radar bracket to measure water height levels at a gauging station in the midlands.
Badger protection and re-location works
In an effort to maintain flood defence abilities of a drain that had been categorised as requiring further action to sustain its level of flood risk into the future, Stonbury completed works to safely relocate and exclude badgers from an existing sett.
Upgrading wastewater infrastructure to meet catchment growth
We delivered capital growth and maintenance works at a live treatment works in Scotland, overcoming deep excavation and service challenges to meet catchment growth.
Pumping station bridge replacement
A specialist Stonbury team was deployed to undertake the replacement of a bridge for the Environment Agency.
Boardwalk refurbishment
Stonbury was contracted by the Environment Agency to refurbish the boardwalk alongside a river which flows through a public park in the midlands during a four-week programme.
Marine outfall repairs in northeast Scotland
We carried out structural repairs and erosion protection to four coastal outfalls at a wastewater treatment works.
Steel baffle curtain solution
A new stainless steel and Flagon curtain baffle wall solution was delivered by Stonbury’s specialist in-house team.
