Reaching out for new talent

Stonbury welcomes a new apprentice to the team after making connections at a recent networking event

A young apprentice will be joining Stonbury in September after reaching out to Stonbury’s People Director, Loraine Thomas, at a Reach Society speed networking event.

The event at Loraine’s alma mater Luton Sixth Form College facilitated interactions between Year 13 students and professionals from diverse career backgrounds. The professionals offered invaluable insights into various industries and career path options, providing candid advice and sharing personal experiences.

Student Judah Lester approached Loraine during the event to express his interest in the construction industry. As a result, Judah secured a summer placement opportunity at Stonbury, which resulted in him being offered a full-time degree apprenticeship in Civil Engineering to commence in September.

Loraine said of the outcome, “I am very excited to welcome Judah to the team following his successful work experience placement. Not only did he gain the opportunity to broaden his knowledge of our sector, but the placement also offered a way for him to explore the workplace in a risk-free environment. At the same time, we as an employer were able to access new talent with a unique skillset while providing opportunities for existing employees to supervise and mentor a young person.”

Stuart Brooks, Regional Director for the South East, said: “We are excited to welcome Judah as our new Civil Engineering Degree Apprentice in our team. Judah impressed us during his successful work experience placement, demonstrating a strong passion for our industry. At Stonbury, we recognise that our future success hinges on the careers of young people like Judah and we must prioritise developing young talent and providing them with significant growth opportunities within the business.”

Stonbury is committed to positively impacting the communities it serves. Giving back is at the heart of Stonbury, and its people are continually seeking opportunities to make a difference.
