Civil Engineering

At Stonbury, we believe that you can’t deliver industry-leading engineering services using someone else’s workforce, someone else’s machines, and someone else’s idea of a job well done. This is why we have a directly employed, specialist civil engineering team, operating our own equipment, within Stonbury’s exacting company management system. We are focused entirely on water assets, delivering  complete and  quality driven solutions in the most cost efficient way.

Our own Teams, Equipment, and High Standards

At Stonbury, we believe that you can’t deliver industry-leading engineering services using someone else’s workers, someone else’s machines, and someone else’s idea of a job well done.

This is why Stonbury brought its 20-year partner, Simpson Civil Engineering, in-house, creating a directly employed, specialist civil engineering team, operating Stonbury owned and branded equipment, within Stonbury’s exacting company management system and procedures.

Integrating civil engineering expertise with Stonbury’s thriving repair, refurbishment and maintenance business delivers totex-efficient combined solutions for high-profile suppliers to the water industry.

Why Stonbury delivers better work

Our industry-recognised standards, training and awards set us apart from the water industry generalists, enabling us to deliver:

  • Work and workers you can trust – We hold ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), and OHSAS 18001 (Health and Safety Management) accreditations. Our teams are directly employed and trained with EU Water Hygiene CSCS Health and Safety, Confined Space Working, and more.
  • In-house civils expertise – In-house civil engineering expertise means we can mix repair, refurbishment and maintenance with “construct new” projects, to meet the full spectrum of client need – without having to bring in outside contractors.
  • Collaboration through innovation – We have developed our own software services and technologies, including communications portals and video toolboxes, that enable our teams to collaborate with clients earlier, more closely, and more cost-effectively, reducing the need for on-site visits.
  • Industry-beating reputation – Stonbury has won the HSE/British Safety Council International Safety Award seven times running. Stonbury have been shortlisted and winners of multiple industry related awards and run our annual Water Tower & Reservoir Bacteriological Failures Conference for delegates across all of the water companies.
  • A proven, stable, growing business – Our experience goes back 30 years, but we haven’t rested on our laurels. We bring on board and train new teams as we expand, with the business growing at around 20% year on year to cope with spiralling repeat demand from our existing clients.

Protecting Supply, Operational Staff and the Public

Both the law and morality dictates that we must do everything possible to protect our precious water resources, staff, customers and the public at large from all the modern world can throw at our industry

But water supply and treatment sites are specialist developments with a tightly interdependent network of assets, ill-suited to generalist civil engineering teams that are often split expensively between many disparate subcontractors.

Stonbury are uniquely positioned to deliver the whole works package, thus avoiding the headache of procuring and project managing a raft of works contractors to get the job done. Through our own directly employed workforce and a few carefully selected supply chain partners, we are able to offer the following services:

  • Security fencing and gates
  • Alarm systems, including cabling, sensors and panels
  • Access steps in both RC and steel
  • Access ladders and raised walkways
  • Roads and footpaths
  • Secure access covers and kiosks
  • Safety flooring including coatings
  • Handrailing

Water companies from around the UK entrust their infrastructure to Stonbury - including the eight largest – and their demand for repeat services is growing our civils teams every week, and our business by 20% year on year.

Constructing and Sustaining our Surroundings

Rainfall is one of our most precious resources, however with it comes over 200 million tonnes of water that we need to collect, divert, channel and transport it to where we need it and away from where we don’t.

Either as stand alone schemes or part of wider projects, Stonbury are able to deliver the full package, examples of previous schemes include:
