Remote Access We Go Where Others Can’t

The most critical client assets, like reservoirs, dams and aqueducts are often in the remotest, most inaccessible locations.

For generalist civil engineering companies, this can be a deal-breaker. For a water industry specialist like Stonbury, however, which has recently scored over 90% for Innovation in the CIPS Sustainability Index, it’s just business as usual.

Our teams use various methods such as quad bikes, helicopters and even conveyor belts to respond rapidly to the challenge of geographically remote assets, in addition to the specialist plant and vehicles that we own.

One team – on the ground and in the air

But whether we arrive on the ground or from the air, clients get the same service: experienced, trained workers, operating in the stability of a directly-employed team, to confidently deliver:

  • Repairs - Concrete and joints, resin injection
  • Waterproofing– Including internal flexible linings
  • Anti-corrosion - Coating/blasting solutions, hand preparation
  • Special protection – Including full encapsulation for sensitive environments

No other water contractor has been working for as many UK national water clients for as long as Stonbury.

Water Treatment Your assets - we have them covered

When it comes to keeping potable water treatment infrastructure fit for purpose, Stonbury’s specialist credentials speak for themselves.

Chemicals used as flocculants such as ferric or alum can have damaging effects on the concrete structures used in the clarification process including floc tanks, settlement tanks and indeed the tanks used for chemical storage including their associated bunds.

Stonbury are able to assist with a wide range of approved products that can protect these assets.

The combination of partially treated water and the aggressive effect of filter media, particularly during backwashing can have a major effect on the surface of rapid gravity filters and the like.

Chemicals used in PH correction and disinfection can have damaging effects on the concrete and steel structures used in water conditioning processes including contact tanks dosing tanks and indeed the tanks used for chemical storage including their associated bunds.

Stonbury are able to assist with a wide range of approved products that can protect these assets.

We specialise in the services that are crucial to the timely, effective refurbishment, repair and maintenance of these assets, including, amongst others:

  • Maintenance - Condition surveys and cleaning
  • Repairs - Concrete and joints, repointing, grouting and structural strengthening
  • Waterproofing – Linings, roof membranes, overburden excavation and replacement

Pipe and Other Bridges Accessibility for All Environments

Nature was not designed for easy access! Often, critical water infrastructure is in difficult locations, made worse by weather and environmental factors, so improving and refurbishing structures like bridges can be extremely problematic.

Generalist civil engineering subcontractors who have none of their own specialist equipment can be a risky and costly choice for this kind of work.

Stonbury’s directly employed civil engineering teams, on the other hand, work with our owned equipment to deliver TOTEX-efficient combinations of repair, maintenance, refurbishment and “construct new” projects - without the costs and management overheads of subcontracting to disparate teams for each specialism.

Water asset access; protecting, improving, renewing

Stonbury’s proven expertise in working with almost half of all the UK’s water companies has delivered  successful bridge projects for Affinity Water, Severn Trent Water, United Utilities, Welsh Water, and more, encompassing:

  • Pipe bridges, impounding reservoir access bridges, foot bridges
  • Full encapsulation - For environmentally sensitive locations
  • Surface protection - Including blasting, jetting and coatings
  • Repairs – Including bespoke fabrication of new components and structures

Stonbury’s use of directly employed teams, rather than subcontractors, enables us to train and upskill our workforce to deliver constantly outstanding service, in line with our industry-recognised accreditations (ISO 9001/2008 Quality Management, ISO 14001/2004 Environmental Management, OHSAS 18001/2007 Health and Safety Management, and many more.)

Sampling Systems It’s all in the detail!

A great deal of time and money goes into treating and distributing our drinking water, all of which can be for nought if clean accurate samples cannot be obtained. Failed samples through poor sampling systems can cause huge disruption and cost.

Stonbury’s proven expertise in working with almost half of all the UK’s water companies has delivered  world class sampling systems in both copper and stainless steel utilising a wide range of supply chain partners to ensure every component in the system are of the highest quality.

We can remove the need for you to bring in multiple contractors to install or upgrade sampling systems by having all the skills needed in house

  • Sample Kiosks, from GRP and LPCB rated steel to new reinforced concrete chambers
  • Pipework – we understand the stringent degreasing and disinfection regimes required
  • Concrete Coring and Repair - ensuring you get a seal as the pipework exits your asset
  • Automation and Actuation – As required to meet your asset standards
  • Commissioning – we’ll work with your teams to ensure a proper handover

Stonbury’s use of directly employed teams, rather than subcontractors, enables us to train and upskill our workforce to deliver constantly outstanding service, in line with our industry-recognised accreditations (ISO 9001/2008 Quality Management, ISO 14001/2004 Environmental Management, OHSAS 18001/2007 Health and Safety Management, and many more.)
